Artist statement:

My practice examines identity and self-representation through the lived experience of being a Black Gay Woman. Working primarily with self-portraiture, I use the mirror as both a conceptual and compositional device to construct images where reality and reflection intersect.

This approach allows for a deliberate manipulation of perspective, enabling me to capture not only the physical body but also the emotional and psychological states that inform my sense of self. The mirror operates as a liminal boundary — simultaneously revealing and obscuring — creating tension between visibility and concealment.

Through this work, I interrogate ideas of authenticity, vulnerability, and performativity, considering how identity is both embodied and constructed. Positioned as both subject and author, I navigate the space between observation and participation, producing images that resist fixed readings and instead invite ongoing interpretation.

A creative mind connects disparate ideas to form new realities, thrives on curiosity and requires the courage to embrace uncertainty, often functioning as a "wild mind and a disciplined eye".
